Monsoon storms the evening of Thursday, Aug. 18 led to power outages in the upriver area. As of Friday morning, the Lakeside Traffic Light was out. The Sheriff's Office was providing traffic control as needed. Power was not expected to be fully restored until Saturday.

Monsoon storms swept through the region the evening of Thursday, Aug. 18, causing power outages in the Parker Strip area north of Parker.

Arizona Public Service is reporting a total of three outages affecting the Lakeside area and the Parker Strip. A total of six power poles were knocked down. APS said 1,726 customers were affected. Power went out a 7:22 p.m. on Thursday, and is not expected to be fully restored until 12 noon on Saturday, Aug. 20.

The La Paz County Health Department has set up a cooling station at the Parker Community Senior Center, which is located at 12th Street and Laguna Avenue in Parker.

As of Friday morning, the Lakeside traffic light at Riverside Drive and State Route 95 was out. The Sheriff’s Office was on hand to direct traffic as needed. Chief Sheriff's Deputy David Gray said motorists should treat this as a four-way stop until power is restored.

As of Friday afternoon, ADOT had placed temporary "stop" signs at the intersection. The Sheriff's Office has asked them to place the signs as the intersection is part of their right-of-way.

EPCOR, the water utility for the Parker Strip, is reporting they cannot get water to their customers as long as the power is off. While they have no control over the power situation, they said they are directing what resources they have to getting power restored. They have bottled water available for their customers at their office at 9079 Riverside Drive north of Parker.

Gray said there were no reports of injuries from the storm.

The owners of the Sanad Bar at SR 95 and Beacon Road reported the storm knocked over a transformer pole behind their business and destroyed their electrical box. The added they would not be open for the weekend.

In addition to power outages, the storm created large puddles of standing water and sent dirt and other debris into roadways.

There were reports of power outages in Bouse, but APS showed no outages there Friday morning on their outage map. Bouse residents reported some structural damage and debris, as well as strong flows through Bouse Wash.

According to Weather.com, the high for Friday will be 102 degrees, with a 15 percent chance of rain this afternoon and evening. The overnight low will be 87 degrees, with a 6 percent chance of rain tonight.
